    Aloha Paul and Kris!
Welcome and thank you for your service. I was stationed in Okinawa too. You will find a lot of similarities here in Hawaii. They even have an Okinawan Fest going on this week (virtually this year). Sept 1-14th. At least 14 Okinawa owned restaurants are here. So you’ll never miss the tastes.Looking forward to meeting you guys and swapping stories.

Hi, planning on starting our unvacation in June. We are renting in Ewa Beach. The scary thing is it’s unfurnished. Are there any places to get essentials like a bed, dishes ect. Doesn’t have to be top of the line. Just to get us set up. We can alway upgrade later. Mahalo!

    Aloha Katherine!
Welcome to the group! I’m in LA too. Great to see another artist. We are looking at the big Island or Maui. But for now we are dipping our toe into Oahu, mostly for the convenience of my parents who are retired military.

We did the same thing and then would torture ourselves by watching a marathon of Hawaii Life. And then yell at the TV when they picked the wrong house. Think Science Theater 3000 for HDTV.

    Hi Judi,
Wow that’s great! There might be a play date in our future. For now we are trying Oahu for our base but had been following the housing market for Maui and the Big Island.

    Hi Mark,
It’s nice to e-meet you. Can’t wait to swap stories on life in Japan. I lived there for 2 yrs in my early 20s. It was my first home away from home.I currently work for Disney TV Animation. Mostly preschool shows like Sofia the First and Elena of Avalor. My Husband Sean has been in the Animation industry for 20 some yrs. So he has worked for about everyone in town.He is also a screen writer. His first “real” film just came out this pass year.

I hear ya, making friends in school was hard and even more so in the real world. I want to get into volunteering as well. Which island are you looking at to move?

The thing that surprises me the most is seeing in comparing CA to HA, is how out of control CA has gotten. Most people here send their kids to private schools and the real estate is so inflated. I have also done some research into starting a business. And Hawaii by far treats small businesses better than CA. Especially Vet owned businesses.

    Aloha!
My name is Kelly. I’m so excited to be part of this group and meeting all of you. My husband and I both work in animation. With the new found freedom of remote working we are testing the waters of making our dream of living in Hawaii a bit sooner than planned. Though at this time it will be a soft move. My parents who are both retired, military and teacher will be living there and my family of (3), son Connor age 3 will be going back and forth until we work out all the logistics of bi-coastal living.
I was also in the military (Air Force) for 10 yrs. My first base was Okinawa, Japan. I think that why I love Hawaii so much. Well, at least one reason.
